Ida Rentoul Outhwaite, born 1888 in Carlton, Victoria, was an Australian illustrator of children’s books, mostly depicting fairies. She worked predominantly with pen and ink, and watercolour.
Her first illustration was published by New Idea magazine in 1904 when she was 15 years of age – it accompanied a story written by her older sister, Anne. In the following years the sisters collaborated on a number of stories. Ida married Arthur Outhwaite in 1909 and began working with her husband on a number of books, one being Fairyland (1926). She sometimes used her four children as models for her illustrations.
