About Aileen’s Linocut Prints

Aileen Brown Linocut Artist prints demonstrate her mastery of colour, composition and design by using two techniques, Multi Block linocut or Reduction linocut.

Multi Block linocut uses more than one piece of lino to create a layered image. Usually, each block is inked with a separate colour and where the colours overlap, another colour can be achieved. Not all layers have to be printed over the top of the previous colour and so cleaner and more contrasted colours can be used. Multi Block linocuts can be tricky as each block must be cut accurately in order for the layers to display well.

Reduction linocut is where only one block is used and carved away between layers after each desired colour (lightest to darkest) is printed on top of the last. This means that the entire edition must be printed as once the next layer is carved into the block, there is no going back.

Each linocut print is lovingly hand made, then signed and numbered by Aileen. Here, we have selected a collection directly from the artist so please enjoy! More Aileen Brown Linocut prints are on show in our gallery.
